Professor John Fenwick, Professor
Organisation and Human Resource Management
PhD, MBA, MSc, BA (Hons)
John is Professor in Organisation and Public Management and is subject group leader of the Leadership and Management Development group. Previously, John was a local government officer, Lecturer at Hull University and Senior and Principal Lecturer at Newcastle Polytechnic. He joined Newcastle Business School in April 2005. John is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the British Academy of Management, the Political Studies Association of the UK, the Local Authorities Research and Intelligence Association and the British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society. He is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Public Sector Management.
John teaches organisational studies, public management and local government. His programme responsibilities lie within research management, including funded research and consultancy and the doctoral programme. John contributes to the external management development activities and distance learning programmes of the Corporate Management Development Centre. John has long-established research interests in public participation and policy research. He recently concluded a study of local political management and the role of executive mayors. John's current research and publications relate to theoretical developments in public management, leadership in local government, postgraduate learning and teaching, and co-operative values in education.
