Public Sector CPD Seminar

On 26th January, from 4.30pm - 6pm, Newcastle Business School and the School of Arts and Social Sciences will by running the first in a series of CPD programmes.
With an uncertain economic climate, increasing pressure on resources and budgets. This will provide a unique opportunity to discuss and debate the key factors influencing our Public Services reorganisation and transformation on the agenda for most public agencies, and a General Election on the horizon, you could be forgiven for thinking that the futures not bright! However, these challenging times provide a unique opportunity to discuss and debate the key factors influencing our Public Services.
Newcastle Business School and the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Northumbria University, would therefore like to invite you to the first, in a series of, CPD Programmes looking at the Future of Local Government. This CPD series will offer perspectives and insights from local academics and experts on current issues and challenges facing the Public Sector.
On this occasion Professor Keith Shaw and Denise Caudle will be offering their views and opinions for forum discussion on the Future of Local Government on Tuesday 26th January 2010 from 4.30pm until 6.00pm.
Professor Keith Shaw is a Professor of Social Sciences at Northumbria University. Over the last 25 years he has published widely on local and regional governance, evaluating urban policy and on community-based approaches to development. He has extensive experience of working for governmental and non-governmental organisations in relation to project and programme evaluations, voluntary and community sector involvement, and neighbourhood governance and local partnership working.
Denise Caudle is a former Director of the Government Office for the North East, where she had particular responsibility for housing and regeneration policy. She was also a member of four Local Strategic Partnerships. Denise is a board member of a Teesside based housing association and is undertaking doctoral research on regional governance at Northumbria University.
